The water supply for Ballynahinch Castle had always been from the river, with a treatment system cleaning the water to make it useable. This was an unreliable source of water as discolouration is hard to remove 100%, therefore for 2011 two borehole wells have been drilled.
The images to the right show the treatment system used to filter the well water, the basic idea is a large sediment filter, bag filter followed by a duplex water softener. As well water always has an element of hardness the softener is vital in any installation, this duplex unit will soften 33,000 litre of water per unit, The water is stored in two 5000 litre tanks, with a duplex UV on the inlet to kill bacteria. A twin booster set pump the water into the hotel for use.
